the scope of this book is kind of insane, i'm like a third of the way through and we're still in the 1200s and the US doesn't exist yet. i'm learning a lot though. also about the Bible. i had a dream about Gog and Magog during my afternoon nap.

I forgot about how awful awful awful vile it is to read some of these primary sources. Like i said i am gonna power through this, i'm definitely learning, but i feel like having a back-and-forth between sources and analysis/narrative would have gotten the ideas across better.

Updating this cause i've been at p. 160 for a while. It's a good book, but the denseness of the text, the nature of it being a reader and not a "narrative," and my absolute failure to read it regularly mean i haven't been absorbing a lot of the info. I've been having to take notes, lol! So i am determined to finish it and then afterwards i think i will read Orientalism to get a different similar perspective #Said
