This is a wonderful series. I wonder why I never heard of it. If you liked Yokohama Shopping Log by Hitoshi Ashinano, then this series will be an instant favorite. Similar vibe. Similar pace. Wonderful art. Science fiction with a mystical twist. The story is about Akari, a girl training to be an undine (gondolier) in the canals of a terraformed Mars, now called Aqua. (I think I just wrote the book review early.)
