I wanted to love this but instead only liked it. Her story is inherently compelling, but I felt Gutierrez was too young to write a memoir. The book felt like a checked box on her path to a political career, rather than a thoughtful, introspective story examining larger issues at play. I enjoyed reading parts of it, but overall felt it lacked vulnerability and substance.
