somewhat desperately looking for a comfort read while I try to get better, and what better than a grueling epic journey to Mount Doom

for real though, it's soothing to read about dramas that have almost nothing to do with personalities

I keep catching hints of a Walter Scott novel. Maybe part of it is the quest/knight errant shape of the story, but it seems to go a little deeper into the details than just the overarching pattern. Also, I forgot just how much of a travel story this is. Tolkien clearly loves his landscapes, and not just because they belong to a world of his invention.

I feel like it's living dangerously to admit I struggle to enjoy Shakespeare OR Tolkien but it's the sad truth. Still . . . it's been many years since I read LOTR so perhaps I've grown wiser!
