Writing is on par with a made-for-tv teen movie. Definitely exaggerated and unrealistic, but it's portrayal of grief is captivating and the main character is easy to emphasize with as she struggles to find a way to cope with her overwhelming emotions. Extra points for being a local Canadian author and highlighting the sport and culture of roller derby (though I'm not educated enough to comment on the accuracy.)
