going to need to take a break from this for at least a few days because chapter 21 is by far the most brutal and gruesome depiction of g*nocide i've ever read in my life. and to think that it was inspired by real accounts of the nanjing m*ssacre... and to think about how this entire book has reminded me of the countless g*nocides unfolding in real time... i can only take so much.
