i’m reading an extended version of this book, with about 100 more pages than the original version, that i bought directly from the author, so it is signed.
it’s so interesting so far — i’ve read the entire beginning section and the part about rufous owls. owls are my favourite birds, and this book is about the author’s firsthand experience with them so it’s stuff i haven’t read before. yay!

i started reading this in june 2024. i pick up the book to look at the photographs often, and read a page or two when i can’t sleep.
i got it signed when i bought it. i was shocked to learn that the author died a year later in june 2025, and it’s been over a year. i found out now as i went to reach out to him with a question, only to see i was too late.
his work is beautiful, and i will get his other books.
