Beauty takes his place and comes to the castle, she meets the Beast who is a complete gentleman wearing velvet finery: invisible servants, and a painting of a mystery prince on the walls.

A merchant has lost his fortune and his ships to bad luck, he and his daughters must now live in the country. The merchant later after getting one ship back rides on his horse through a snowstorm and comes to a mysterious castle. He does not meet his host and is treated reasonably well until he plucks a rose from one of the surrounding rose bushes.
