Dmitri Shostakovich is someone I have a fascination towards. His ability to make music out of minimal material and under almost comedically difficult circumstances is just so impressive to me. It'll be interesting to read this book by someone who is even more fascinated.

Touching on particularly sensitive concepts here, such as Shostakovich's fragilities in later years, even having suicidal intentions, with such intentions also being echoed by our author here. It's a dark topic, but one that is important to cover here.

An interesting turn in topic towards emotion, and to that of love and affection. It's an interesting topic to delve into as it relates to music, and ends with an interesting question of whether music can replace a mother's kindness. I guess it depends on who you are and how you were raised, really.

This is the first time we're starting to dig into the more psychological aspects behind how painful media can still provide a joyous and positive experience. It's an interesting thing to read up on, and I have another book on hand that I need to read at some point.
