For those that have read the book before: I just passed scene of the ritual where Rahl goes to the Underworld. I think I was supposed to be more shocked by his actions than I was, but frankly I just wanted him to get the hell on with it. It was, however, an excellent example of a long, drawn-out, powerful sorcerous ritual. It's the sort of thing that's nearly impossible to show in any format other than a book.

Okay, you know what? I'm 20 hours in and nothing of substance has happened. No one has advanced in any noticeable way since page one. Not only that, but the repeat stupidity on the part of main characters is getting really old. Most unfortunate, though, is that 90% of what we get as world development is told, not shown. It ends up feeling less like a real world and more like generic D&D. Not even Greyhawk here.
