The vignette style seems to be working in summing up the wisdom behind this book. Every section seems to have a metaphor that connects to either Little Dog's experience with language, or to her mother's experiences.

I will try to read one section a day because it's all that I got the time for.

Metaphor of monarch butterflies in the first chapter. Right up my alley. Hard to get into if you’re not used to his poetics.
