I've figured out what it is that's making this hard to get into.
Not just that Eli is weirdly possessive before even knowing her name and it gives me the ick...
But she has Rue's POV in first person and Eli's POV in third person.
It's so jarring to me and really messes with the flow as I read and I really don't understand that choice.

And another thing that I keep coming across and HATE... The constant use of contradictions! A couple throughout, sure, fine, I probably wouldn't notice. But earlier there was AT LEAST 3 on a single page. And here is another; "The curls, at once flattened and wild."
Mate, can you stop?

"She shrugged. Her breasts bounced - a masterpiece of gravity."
What the actual fuck.
This line took me so far out of reading, and I almost threw the book across the room.
ALI HAZELWOOD YOU ARE A WOMAN, YOU KNOW THIS IS ANATOMICALLY NOT THE WAY OUR BODIES MOVE?!
I even attempted the most aggressive shrug of my life, and there was no "bouncing"
Please let the last however many pages redeem this heap of trash.

So far I'm only on chapter 3, but I think this might be the worst Ali Hazelwood yet. I immediately loved all of her other stuff, but I'm not buying Eli's instant protective urges towards Rue.
I'm going to power through, I trust that it will redeem itself, but so far I'm bored and feel like this is going to be too predictable.
