Couldn’t help but notice the resemblance to “Crime and Punishment” at the beginning of the story. Winston in 1984 and Raskolnikov in C&P are both heavily conflicted to act on a thought that’s been lingering in each of their minds. However, Winston’s action is swift, he quickly commits a “thoughtcrime” and even says to himself that thoughtcrime doesn’t just entail death; “thoughtcrime is death.”
