I know some people must like it, but to me there is nothing so boring and banal as detailed descriptions of food, which are served up on seemingly every page of this overlong book.
I am finding this aspect of the book, among others, to be terribly tedious and tiresome.

Agreed. Like dream sequences in books and movies, which are my bete noire…

The fact that this book is so popular blows my mind. It's been on my tbr list forever because people love it, but I am struggling hard to get through it.
Yes, same here. My wife recently met someone whose daughter was assigned this as summer pre-reading for AP Lit. The idea of giving this to a high schooler for summer reading is mind-blowing!
