I have to say that though Darcy is cruel, it is all because of his illness/laudanum. Therefore he does have an excuse. He says some terrible and scandalous things to everyone. I don’t know why Elizabeth thinks he desires another woman when he is calling out for “My Elizabeth”

Listening to the audiobook version. At first the narrator’s voice was a shock, but I got used to it. I actually like her character voices.

Chapter 1 was a great/ interesting beginning. I can see how the circumstances would influence Elizabeth’s acceptance of Darcy’s proposal. So far so good!
