‘Peregrine Worsthorne went straight to the point: 'If the Falkland Islanders were British citizens with black or brown skins... it is doubtful whether the Royal Navy and Marines would today be fighting for their liberation.’ - I mean Britain booted the Chagossians out of their Island homeland to house an American military base - this isn’t even up for debate. Anyway, Gilroy is very strong on the Falklands war. :)

'Enoch Powell's 'what kind of people are we?' answered itself. 'We' were not muggers, 'we' were not illegal immigrants, 'we' were not Rastafarians, or purveyors of arranged marriages. 'We' were the lonely old lady facing 'wide-grinning piccaninnies'. 'We' were the white child in a class of blacks. 'We' were the white man, that 'the black man would have the whip hand over'. A white, national 'we' could be unified.
