I'm surprised that Caro killed off Calantha (who is herself?) I guess this falls into the 18th century lit trope of the fallen woman can only redeem herself if she dies.

Elinor St. Claire is probably the most interesting character still kicking. Kinda wish she'd fight Glenarvon instead of Avondale.

Glenarvon (Byron) is actually pretty annoying to listen to. If he was anything like this irl...yikes.

The on again off again between Calantha (Caro) and Glenarvon (Byron) is insane and frankly annoying to read. The plot repeats itself in loops. I'm waiting for Avondale (Lamb) to come back since he's supposed to fight Glenarvon (maybe?) This seems to be taking a lot longer than it should. There are passages with great quality writing, but there's a lot of both Calantha and Glenarvon contradicting themselves. Ugh.

This isn't all that bad compared to other stories I have read. I think Lady Caroline might have needed an editor b/c there is a lot that seems out of place but there are many sentences which are works of beauty. This easily could have been two different novels with all the plotlines and characters she working with. Complex stories aren't bad but you have to execute them well enough for it to work.

Lord Avondale: Please don't associate with Lady Mandeville, dear Calantha. She's bad news. :(

Five minutes later: Lady Mandeville busts into Avondale's house and brings her harem of admires and illegitimate children with her.

Yes, she really did that. No one would EVER in regency England.
