James and Eli’s reaction to their parents’ deaths seem overblown if they act like it had to be someone or something’s fault. The lack of detail around the event makes it even harder to relate to—usually a perceived injustice over a death is tied to regret that they could have prevented it or that things were somehow within their control, yet it’s never portrayed like that. It’s always just “a freak car accident”.

They have magic and all, and James can’t even use any to get past a locked gate? 😳 That’s weird. He could do a bazillion things. Even without magic why doesn’t he use his truck’s horn to get attention? What kind of magic do they have that it’s so useless in the most basic and practical situations?
