So just a few hours after I repost a recent review where the entire book had just been deleted off GR and my review locked with no comments allowed (I found another entry), some vindictive power hungry librarian deleted this entry as well. Every other issue of the comic series is fine to stay up, but if I review it it’s gone. Fuck Goodreads.

I had to look elsewhere online to see the book. Richard Corben cover art. I hate censorship. I'm worried we'll have to get used to it.
I can still see my review plus the cover art I posted but not sure if others can and I don’t want to log out to check (not sure I can even remember my GR password). I know you can’t search for the book now, so it’s effectively off GR unless you happen to see it under my reviews. All I know is I’m likely done with this site, but I’ll leave my reviews up for posterity. Who knows when they’ll be magically deleted, though.
There is nothing on that cover that’s objectionable. Maybe it’s a ban on all things Kitchen Sink? Goodreads does get cluttered, and I would understand if they eliminated all comic book content (there’s just so much of it, it needs its own site) but don’t remove things willy-nilly.
I believe the new rule on Goodreads (as of Feb 2023) regarding comic books is that they need to have an ISBN in order to be considered "valid" books. Seems dumb to me, but that's probably why they took it down
It is truly amazing how badly this site is run - have you tried any of the alternatives? (Story Graph being the main contender)
Reviewers like yourself are one of the main reasons to use GR as far as I'm concerned, so if you were to relocate it may help get other people to do so!
That sucks, Jack. But your review made me want to pursue this issue, and I was able to order a copy. So you did something valuable for someone :)
I could see it being a new policy, but then why wait until I post a review to delete the book? Maybe I’m drawing attention to it? There’s a bunch of other issues in the series still listed, and I know if I were to post reviews for them they would get deleted as well. Also, I’ve had other reviews go totally missing as of late.I’m not sure what I’m going to due just yet, but for now I might just stick to solely rating books I’ve read, as I spend too long writing some of these reviews, and it sucks when a librarian decides to play stupid games.
I know GR can be a clusterfuck, but jeez, this pisses me off. I love your reviews, and wonder why that one got targeted...
As a Librarian, I feel your pain, Jack. That comic book was definitely removed for simply being a comic book without an ISBN (TPBs still count) or ASIN (which would cover Kindle issues), nothing to do with censorship. It may have been one of you followers, like me, was a Librarian and your highlighting the issue brought it to their notice—in the same way I was thinking about adding your cover to the entry but didn't bother for exactly this reason, that it would be ultimately fruitless.
One of the first things I did as a Librarian years ago was update many entries with info from my collection of horror paperbacks and first editions, and almost all of that is gone now, as Amazon auto-imports current info over the top, replaces covers, and deletes editions entirely. I give up.
But I hope you stay on, I enjoy your reviews.
I occasionally run into this problem but I just post the review for the uncollected story under one of the single issues and point out that the review is for the arc rather than just the single ish.
