We now have several paragraphs describing a dog being goofy and a cat being judgmental. This writer gets me.

Some movement on the plot, as well as some (kind of abrupt) backstory for a side character, who’s suddenly being set up as another love interest? I have to admit, it’s feeling less and less cohesive. Still a fifth of the way to go, but after such a promising start, I’m beginning to see why more people don’t talk about this series.

Ah, good, unnecessary explicit sex scenes between characters who barely know each other. At least I’m at the two-thirds mark now, so hopefully things will pick up again after this. The beginning held so much promise, but the middle has been a hurdle.

Sadly, the middle section is dragging quite a bit. Gair seems to be spinning his wheels, and I’m enjoying the side chapters more than the main plot now. I like what the author is trying to do with Gair and his apparent love interest, but I don’t think it’s paced very well. Still, we’ll she what she does with it in the end.

The story’s mostly been focused on Gair so far; we had one detour earlier, but now we’ve got two more. At the moment, it feels kind of distracting. I’ll hope that the author ties it all together in the end. Also a scene of a villain looking at porn, which is… weird, but not the weirdest sex thing I’ve seen in a book. Recently.

I’ve obviously just started this one, but… I’m really enjoying it so far? Like, despite the situation they’re in, our leads are being nice to each other, and working together to overcome it. The prose is great, too, with a musical thread tying together many of the descriptions.
