CROOK MANIFESTO was my first exposure to Colin Whitehead, and It is solid detective story. It reminds me of some of Raymond Chandler's novels. But with 1970s NYC in lieu of 1940s Los Angeles. The dialog crackles and pops, and the grittines of Harlem come alive with violence and fury. I will have to check out more of Whitehead's works.
