What We Call
What we call dispiriting—
Like when ballroom doors open, and a woman in an elegant evening gown slips and falls.
What we call defeat—
Like right at the moment of orgasm there's an earthquake or a fire breaks out.
What we call unfairness—
Like when the sun unloads itself on the person right next to me.
What we call pathetic—
Like when two women are fighting under the scorching sun and catch heatstroke.
What we call impossibility—
Like an executioner raising his axe and sneezing, and the condemned sneezes at the same time.
What we call luck—
Like a drunk lying in the middle of the street, no cars driving by.
What we call unserious—
Like a donkey with wings, not for flying but just for show.
