If we have to boil water before we drink it, why do we all need to bring our canteen? If we are all using what is boiled in the pot, shouldn’t it be a big pot, too large to carry for water enough for 7 people? Why not perhaps, fill canteens, then pour it into the pot to boil to refill the canteen?

Okay, perhaps if we don’t jump the gun and read into the next chapter, we see that we are starting a fire and boiling the water beside the stream.
