A German political treatise on what value "work" has in today's society and looking forward to the repercussions of the -- happening far more slowly than planned -- cyberworld of AI and online/gig work. Right in my wheelhouse!

Chapter 4. What about responsibility?
If a self-learning AI programme for health tells people to eat a certain food -- and 200 of them die -- who is responsible? A bot can't be put on trial, sued, or jailed. Neither can the "owner" of the bot, nor the engineers who created it (self-learning!).
If nobody is responsible, where will there be justice? Or is responsibility not an idea we'll be able to apply to AI?

Chapter 3. If people think and act as if AI is a train barrelling down us and we can't help but get run over -- that's what will happen. If we realise that the digital revolution is steerable through the creation/enforcement of legal frameworks, then we can make sure AI is implemented where it will help most and hurt least. Without that understanding...SPLAT.

"The future of work....Lisa Herzog shows how it can become fairer and more democratic in the digital age than it has ever been - for everyone, not just for the privileged few." This book is not yet avaiable in English. Am stirred to find out how the author sees this contentious issue playing out. Stalwart reading, Berengaria!

So far, I've read about how the two big myths about work 1) people only work because they need the money and 2) work as expression of personality and personal fulfilment both have true cores, but are massively over hyped and do not reflect the work of work very realistically.
Basically, this is because people -- all people -- must work together to achieve anything. "Standing on the shoulders of giants" is how any scientific/tech advancements are made and things like international supply chains go to show that work is not about Lone Wolves, but about group effort and shared information. (these have been the first two topics)
