Well that sucks. The last time that happened to me it was the office bully and she was in full steam because she had an audience and thought that I was stupid enough to be afraid to talk back to her. As soon as she paused for air I gave her my look. The one that my kid says means 'if you do anything other than breathe I will end you' and calmly said "I'm sorry were you talking to someone? Because with that tone it couldn't possibly have been me." and walked away. She actually apologized to me later, in private of course.

It was actually something I did, and for that I feel bad.

Well you shouldn't you made a mistake and we all make them. What this person did was totally inappropriate. Mistakes happen, we learn from them and move on, it's frequently how we get better at the things we do, I learn more from one screw up than doing 100 things right. But unless this person is Elspeth's supervisor they had not business discussing it with her and if they're her supervisor than they should get their facts straight first before speaking with anyone about it. Calling someone and ripping on them about something they didn't do and that doesn't concern them isn't a mistake it's totally unprofessional and inappropriate and truthfully, I've gotten to the point where that bullshit just don't fly with me and I'd be discussing it with the person's supervisor.

Seriously when someone goes around talking shit that doesn't concern them and they don't know the facts about that's how gossip gets started and personal and professional reputations get damaged.

No mistake actually I asked someone to make sure something that was supposed to be done actually be done, and someone else must have felt like it was an attack on her when in actuality it had nothing to do with this person at all.

Oh I always love it when simply asking someone to do their job somehow because a criticism and then the someone else who shouldn't be involved decides their going to deal with something that isn't an issue so they can make it one. I am patting myself on the back for not crawling into the corner and crying. I hate confrontation, and I am trying to not make it bigger than what it is, but fuck my day is now shit because my mood has tanked so hard.

I hear you. Truthfully if it's me they come at then I just wait for them to stop because even the biggest bitch in the office needs to breath eventually and when they do I usually have something ready that shuts them down long enough for me to just walk away. If they come at someone else who I know and like I will take them down and put them out with the trash. It's just another form of bullying and I can't stand it. Don't let them ruin your day though, they're not worth that much time and energy.
