In Chapter 4, It is established that Jane, the eldest daughter, is of great character and never speaks ill of anyone she meets or knows. Elizabeth is established to be the opposite of that, she’s quick to judge and cynical, but she’s playful and witty.
Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy are good friends despite their myriad differences. Bingley is respectful and kind, while Darcy is (very much) less so.

In Chapter 3, the ball is considered a “smashing” success, Mr. Bingley danced with Jane two times rather than once, like the other bachelorettes. Elizabeth had to sit out two dances because Mr. Bingley’s friend, Mr. Darcy was rude and was basically calling everyone “too below his station” to dance with, except Jane.
