Not to mention not consorts: Horus was not consort with Isis, Osiris was, and the two aren't doublets.
Furthermore it ignores why exactly myth existed, which is very different, at times, of why folklore exists: THEY ARE SOCIOLOGICAL PARADIGMS, among other things! The point of Aphrodite/Adonis is exactly that it's not incest no matter how much it resembles mother/son. The point of Attis is non-sexual reproduction.

"the Mother, a goddess of fertility, was often accompanied by a young male deity who was both her son and her consort: Isis with Horus, Astaroth with Tammuz, Kybele with Attis, Rhea with the young Zeus. Everywhere she bore her son by parthenogenesis; then, in union with him, she bore all living things”
Why are folklorists so ignorant about myth? This is true for literally none of these, most aren't even mother&son.

that Lord Ragland and his extreme Myth and Ritual school bullshit is at all taken seriously still makes me doubt the whole field of folkloristics - this is some of the most reductive, baseless and amateurish renderings of myth I've ever witnessed, it's up there with Jung.

damn, Myth and Ritual school actually said "I'll prove that the entire Iliad derives from ritual actions for which the episodes in the epic are but the stories behind" and then proceeded to not even touch the entire war but only isolated episodes of the Trojan war like Little Ajax's outrage of Kassandra and so on, plus the ritual assertion that Odysseus blinding Polyphemus "derives from a firemaking ritual" (???)

dude this myth and ritual shit skullcry emoji. "as for geography, it was merely a question of what would pass muster; their audiences would accept Ithaca as a large and fertile island..." vro it's not like Troy was found literally just by taking Homer at his word against all the idiotic Victorian philistines of this opinion or anything lmfao

"no myth or folklore has ANY historical basis it's all ritual" lmfao this attempt to explain an entire war narrative from ritual when we have the Hittite archives right there, okay mister.

Well yes, if all "tyrants" in myth are replaced with "father" even if they have nothing to do with fatherhood then heroic myth does look like Oedipal fantasies - just like any piece of action fiction then! If all "women" are replaced with "mothers", then all romances are incestual Oedipal fantasies! What an easy game to play this is!

"The last stage of this progressive attenuation of the hostile relation to the father is represented by that form of the myth in which the person of the royal persecutor not only appears entirely detached from that of the father, but has even lost the remotest kinship with the hero’s family, which he opposes in the most hostile manner[...] as if the designation “father” had been simply replaced by the term “tyrant.”"
