“Stateside, the U.S. government warned Americans about enemy agents spreading false rumors. Still, many people believed the rumors and perpetuated them, “some innocently and some maliciously,”41 noted a North Carolina newspaper.

I see nothing has changed.

“This time, people should not rely solely on the work of their leaders at the peace table. “If democracy is to prove itself, the voice of the people must be more articulate. Every person must take full responsibility in making the leaders conscious of the wishes of the people..."

“If we ever again are guilty of leaving people without the best possible equipment in adequate amounts, in a world which requires such equipment, then somehow we should make it a prerequisite that the older people who are responsible are promptly sent out to die in these frontier battles. Why should the young always be expendable for the mistakes of the old?"

This is taking me forever, not because it's bad- it's actually good, but I'm just not in a serious nonfiction mood.
