Lenore It's an exhausting, at times even brutal, but at the same time engrossing and fascinating read. It's a coming of age story revolving around the love-hate relationship between the narrator Elena and her childhood friend Lila, but it also explores several other themes; romantic love as opposed to lust/desire, envy, lack of self-worth and how it affects one's decisions and paths in life, class struggle, gender roles, politics.

The writing breaks most rules in a brilliant way. Sample it? I'm curious to see what you think.

I'm reading the English translation. Though I might check the original at some point because I'm curious about certain unconventional word choices, like the repeated use of "depressed" instead of "melancholy" or "organism" instead of "body".
