Finally decided to read all of this series after I got to for one see "El Topo" on a big screen and feel I understood it a lot better than now. This comics series is Jodorowsky's attempt at a traditional Western, and I think I says a lot that it's very eccentric and grotesque by almost anyone else's standards.
One thing is for certain: Boucq's art is gorgeous whenever he has to do sweeping expansive landscapes.

Interestingly enough this volume has quite a few callbacks to "El Topo" if in a much more realistic setting, like the young protagonist Seth undergoing some of the same challenges as both El Topo and his son, like having to kill his mentor and go through several rituals symbolising the passage between childhood and adulthood. Also includes a mystical experience treated with utmost respect.
