My God, what is a heart,
That thou shouldst it so eye, and woo,
Pouring upon it all thy art,
As if thou hadst nothing else to do?
Teach me thy love to know;
That this new light, which now I see,
May both the work and workman show:
Then by a sunbeam I will climb to thee.

"Love is that liquor sweet and most divine,
Which my God feels as blood; but I, as wine."

Be calm in arguing, for fierceness makes
Error a fault, & truth discourtesy.
Why should I feel another man's mistakes
More than his sickness or poverty?
In love I should: but anger is not love,
Nor wisdom neither: therefore gently move.
Though private prayer be a brave design,
Yet public hath more promises, more love:
And love's a weight to hearts, to eyes a sign...
Pray with the most: for where most pray, is heaven
