Although this book is set in 1958 there is no mention of TV's, I was born in 1956 to a working class family in Northern England but we had one. This is a detective thriller and I'm sure the police of the time would have been sure to have had up to date things in their homes. The speech pattern seems typical of middle class England. On the whole though I'm enjoying the story.
