I figured out why I just can't connect with this book... There are literally no female characters, seriously. I'd be shocked if they've even mentioned someone's mother thus far... I don't want stupid insta-love but I'd like to at least have women mentioned, like they existed, or are all these men just grown in a lab?

Finally figured out why I can't seem to connect to this book... There are literally no female characters. It's all just men, so I'm having terrible connecting to the characters emotionally. The Shannara , TV series has female leads, so I really need to get through this book to be able to read the second one, upon which the series is based.

Decided to get down to reading this (finally) because of the TV series, which is apparently based on the second book. The show really impressed me, especially for an MTV production (the last people I'd expect to get decent epic fantasy from).
