Ah yes, Russian mad scientists. Very un-wholesome. But at least something we don't have in the real world.

I don't know... I get what you're trying to do, but when you take a very real and specific event to be a part of it, you cross the line from wholesome to outright wish fulfillment. I put the book away, I think back to said event, I can't deny it didn't go as well as here, and I end up feeling only worse. And so the book's done the opposite it sought to do.

Still a palate cleanser after A God Somewhere.
