Sherlock Holmes is a prototype of a computer. He’s described as a reasoning machine; he maintains an index of information on persons and things; he’s able to simulate the appearance of many character types. It's notable and maybe odd that before Alan Turing et al. proposed electromechanical devices that could do such things, Arthur Conan Doyle proposed this human version.
