She'd been outmaneuvered by a plant.

Her father had once told her he hoped she found someone who made her smile. Just that. No fireworks like in tales and ballads. He didn't wish her the shiver of romance or the endless ache of desire. All those grand emotions they're fun, but eventually they fade. They always fade. What was better was companionship. He'd wanted her to find someone who would be there for her, who'd laugh with her through the years.

Caz slid between them and held up his leaves. "Gah, stop! This is painful. Don't either of you know how to have a conversation? Let the plant teach you. First you talk, then you, then you..."

He smiled, and the expression transformed him from ordinary into stunningly handsome. It was like the sun coming out from behind the clouds over a stormy sea.
