this is an oddly pleasurable read. the mc's motivations and inner dialogue break with convention and expectation but not in a just-to-be-pretentious but an i-thought-and-shed-shackles way; the reflections on fandom and being a fan strike me as mildly detached and thus relatable; i like how this comes with its own fanfic that is both parallel and contradiction to the plot; i wonder if other readers ship the mc and o
