The clothes are driving me nuts. Author must have done no research. No one was wearing off the shoulder sleeves and bell skirts in the 1770’s. Not to mention, her low cut dresses would have a handkerchief (a fichu) above the bodice for modesty during the day. She is wearing 1860’s evening fashion from what I can tell. Too much brocade also.

Where on earth are the servants? She actually did up her fancy gown (which fastened in the back!) several pages ago. She’s cooking! There’s no way this was happening for rich people in 1776. The author didn’t do much research.

Also, the heroes are SO violent. And this one started with a literal rape joke. Ugh.

Marietta is a vivid character but you can really tell a man wrote her.
