The protagonist contemplates beauty ideals society dictates, in particular having to shave your legs as a woman. I'm totally on the same page. It's the most annoying thing ever but if one wants to be able to show leg in public there's no way getting around it - at least if one has dark hair like I do and doesn't want to be considered a total freak.
