The last eight chapters. It's sad to see how the protagonist craves for male validation and the men in the book are mostly very disrespectful. It's a chick flick book but the reality of the gender relations weighs heavy. Paradise island isn't exactly paradise. The nature is amazing but the humans are really dumb.

Pito is like the Asuelo of this book. The story is getting slightly better, although it is still very annoying. But it helps me a lot to get back into French. Each chapter tells a story of a cousin or a relative of Materena.

People think of Tahiti as a paradise. The nature sure is, but this book shows how toxic some of the human relationships can be. The women are mostly pick-mes. The men are full of ego. The mothers worship their sons. Fathers abandon their children. There's a lot of spending of money that they don't have. And the indirect assumption that somebody will help out. Lots of toxic traits.

I'm reading the first book. I've read the second book and didn't like it. I can understand why. It's very male-identified and full of patriarchal messages. Sadly. It's a chick flick. It's easy to read in French
