When you read this journey, you go far, or very close, to the very depths of mankind, their stupidity sometimes, their misery, you may laugh too; but in any case you don't come out of it intact. At the same time, the writing is dense, almost tiring, as life can be, and Bardamu's succession of words & phrases sometimes exhaust but also challenge the reader. It’s heavy, dark, sombre, but so well written !
