I love local stories by local authors. Even when they aren't good, they're still good. It's kinda like Coors Light after mowing the lawn.
It is always interesting to contrast writing styles, especially when you read something back to back. Larry Enright is taking an entirely different tact than Stephen Graham Jones. Short sentences, full explanations of all the locales and history.

You can't have an omniscient narrator who is a character in the book, but the main character doesn't always know the narrating character is around.
What had been an enjoyable murder mystery is now being wrapped up a little too quickly. Doc Ellis just explained the entire story, which feels too convenient. "Criminals who will stop at nothing", is next to "deus ex machina" as a literary device.

Other than the mystery of Anna Mae, this is a thoroughly enjoyable book. It's a solid little murder mystery, that takes place between Atlantic City and Cape May. If you are familiar with the area you'll love it. If you enjoy traditional light summer reading, this is perfect for the porch, or the beach, or the pool.
If I find out that Anna Mae is the "spirit of Cape May" or some nonsense, I'll be furious.

Oh yeah- what's up with this narrator? How is she omniscient AND a character in the story?
