This book was truly an interesting book. It followed Senator Vance from his troubled life as a child of an addicted mother and his relationship with his grandparents who were there for him. The area in Appalachia where people were very poor but did the best they could with the circumstances they endured. The language was pretty rough and the situations were very disturbing but the fact that he grew up and was able to change his circumstances to become a serviceman, lawyer and Senator was amazing. He never forgot or turned his back on where he came from. He helped his family out and was there when they needed him.. A very good read but be prepared because some is hard to read and realize this is the way it was and still is is some of these places.
