The book does a great job of clarifying the foundations of Social Democracy as an ideology and its historical split from more radical socialist movements. As Kjell Österberg explains it, the difference lies in social democrats’ decision to, instead of replacing capitalism, make it as effective as possible, and using its surplus to combat unemployment and implement social reforms.

So far a great piece. Covers in great detail, and with a critical view, the rise of Swedish social democracy and how flaws could be seen early on. It’s interesting to get an insight into how already in the early days of the party the leadership often took matters into their own hands, making populist decisions, and ignoring the consensus within the party.
