So the trials started . . . and they're already boring. Half of these contestants don't want to kill each other. they're friends and family, they grew up together. They're not enemies. So there's no tension. No hatred

Why is it taking so long for the trials to begin? Why put a ball so early in the book? It takes away all tension in the romance (not that there was much to begin with). There's no build-up, no slowburn, no passion.

This book needs some serious edition. Not only vocab and grammar-wise but content-wise. Paedyn just used the term "survival of the fittest". This is a term invented by Herbert Spencer, derived from Darwinian evolution theory. While the concept can exist in fantasy the term can't because the scientists don't exist in the fantasy world. An editor with attention to detail would have edited this out.

I wish this book had been a single pov from Paedyn. It would have doused Kai's character in mystery, leaving the reader puzzled about his actions. now Kai is just laying it all out in the open with his thought-telling. There's no mystery, nothing that makes me wonder why he does what he does. It makes his character boring. He's all tell not show

How is it that I'm almost 20% into the book and NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET

Since I’m lowkey being forced to read this (my bestie got me the audiobook on Libby), here we go.
First thoughts after reading the synopsis:
- The whole plague-gives-powers-to-humanity thing sounds like a rip-off from The Young Elites series (but I guess we’ll wait for the final judgment
- Heard this was pitched as Red Queen meets THG. Curious to see if it’s inspired by or a copy-paste of these OG books
