I’m just in awe, absolute awe. Imagine testifying before congress, two years into a battle with terminal cancer (in the 60s) (chemo hadn’t been invented yet). Everyone in the chemical industry isn’t just slandering your book, but you as an individual (“what could a spinster know?”). And you’re just trying to stay alive. Good god.
