I hate the saying "pick me girl" like I'm just over people calling girls that because feminism means supporting ALL women not just some who are quiet and not imposing on others and not wanting to be special because honestly why shouldn't we be able to stand out and be different or be quiet if we want to? It's all okay and I just think this kinda talk perpetuates sexism but that's just me

Agreed, but “pick me” means different things to a lot of people, which makes it even more frustrating. I think it’s okay to be different or quieter and not into the things that other girls are into. But it’s annoying if someone is always complaining and saying stuff like “ugh I’m so ugly nobody wants me. I’m so different than _____”. Like, to me, that’s a pick me girl and that’s when it’s annoying.

That makes so much sense Ariyana!! (Sorry I can't directly reply to your comment LOL!) And it does mean different things to people and maybe it just hits me because I'm insecure and do sometimes have those thoughts which I'm sure we all do sometimes! It depends how you present it and it can get complicated! I just think that taking other girls down is way too common which is kinda a separate thing. But yes there absolutely are pick me boys HAHA
That's not just you. I've been yelling at people who'd listen practically all my life that hating on the so-called group of pick-me girls is basically women hating on women. You can't talk about feminism while simultaneously bashing a certain sect of women.
yeah i think the term 'pick me' has been warped by modern media. it was originally used to refer to ppl, especially girls, who put down other girls/women to appeal to the male gaze, e.g. "im not like other, girls, i like sPorTs" but a lot of ppl are j using it now to refer to girls who dont like traditionally feminine things, which is just... not helpful in the least
I see that, yeah. Imo I connect "Pick me" to girls who put down other girls for men's approval. Because being vocal about the rights you deserve is called standing up for yourself, NOT being a pick me.
YES to all of this!! I think people use it in lots of different ways and that's def something to think about as well! But putting certain types of women down... idk maybe that's how some people define "pick me" as well LOL it's just a very popular phrase right now and I love hearing what you all think of it as well!
