Before marriage both parties need to know their Good given purpose in life. The choice of a partner then is based on being a help meet toward meeting that purpose rather than need meet. I.e
Meeting one's selfish needs.
A man to know he's ready for marriage should understand his role in preparing his wife to be Holy and sanctified before Christ.
