Annie Dillard's "A Pilgrim at Tinker Creek" is a good follow-up to this one, and I think you would enjoy it. I can also recommend anything of John McPhee's.

Thanks! I know I've read one John McPhee, but I can't remember which one. Tinker Creek's been on my shelf for a good 15 years; maybe it's finally time to crack it open!
