Lawd Today! was quite good, though you could feel Wright working his way through Ulysses, testing out his own material in the mold of Joyce's novel. While it's evident Wright is an excellent writer, I have to believe he set himself free from such close imitation, especially given his admonitions to Ralph Ellison.
